An @EbonySunChi’s original, the “#ProtectUs” shirt is our daily reminder that Black women are killed by police without any justice served, represent some the highest missing and human trafficked numbers, and are normally faced with doubt and neglect in doctor offices and hospitals across the country. We do not live in the same America as White women.
How can we do better to #ProtectUs? No shade to any other race, but Black women are more than the mere magic you want us to be. We are divine creatures.
The collection pays homage to Black women whose lives were cut short by the hand of the enemy.
We speak boldly the names of:
Rekia Boyd (1989-2012),
Sandra Bland (1987-2015),
Mother Bettie Jones (1960-2015),
Kierra Coles (still searching)*
Atatiana Jefferson (1990-2019),
& Breonna Taylor (1993-2020)
as a reminder that there is more work to be done!
*Anyone with information about the disappearance of Coles is asked to contact Chicago police at (833) 408-0069 or (312) 746-7330 or online at CPDtip.com.
